Centene Community Ice Center will open the “Barn” (it’s 2,500 seat covered outdoor ice rink) and host USA Hockey and Hockey Canada, as both nations hold a mini training camp prior to a two-game exhibition series with both games being played outdoors.
After hosting USA Hockey for a selection camp prior to the 2021 Para Sled Hockey World Championships, the Centene Community Ice Center welcomes its first international hockey event as USA Hockey takes on Hockey Canada.
Since opening in September of 2019, the Centene Community Ice Center has hosted numerous USA Hockey events including the 2019 USA Hockey/NHL Sled Classic, the 2021 Chipotle USA Hockey Nationals, training camps for both the men’s and women’s senior para sled hockey teams, and just this past weekend with, the inaugural USA Hockey Blind Hockey Festival.
“It’s an honor when USA Hockey inquires about bringing events to the St. Louis region!” Lance Rosenberg, General Manager of the Centene Community Ice Center said. “Since opening our doors, we have worked on bringing international hockey events to St. Louis, fortunately, USA Hockey has been a tremendous partner and advocate of the facility and we are extremely excited for our first international game.”
Dan Brennan, General Manager of the USA National Para Ice Hockey Team said “Your National Para Hockey Team is thrilled to be back in St. Louis squaring off against our arch-rival, Canada. Come out and check out the games and you’ll be glad you did!”
The state-of-the-art facility, was designed to be inclusive of all abilities of skaters and hockey players. One of those players who frequents the Centene Community Ice Center has worn the captaincy for Team USA and is St. Louisan, Josh Pauls.
Team USA’s Josh Pauls said: “St. Louis is a great sports city and we’re extremely fortunate to be able to train and play our biggest rival here. With the Blues winning the Stanley Cup just a few short years ago, hockey is definitely on the mind of St. Louisans and we’re extremely excited to have them pack the “Barn” for us on Friday and Saturday on the Road to Beijing 2022.”
